Mozilla Firefox 2: Increase Firefox Surfing Speed
Related Items
Most browsers are configured for dial-up users. Tweak the settings for your optimal use of Firefox 2. You can accelerate this browser surfing speed more than 10% from normal operation.
The true power user’s tool in Firefox is about:config. This is the main configuration parameters of Firefox. You can get to the main configuration screen by typing about:config in the browser’s address bar. about:config is a feature of Mozilla applications which lists application settings (known as preferences) that are read from the profile files prefs.js and user.js, and from application defaults. Many of these preferences are not present in the Options or Preferences dialog. Using about:config is one of several methods of modifying preferences and adding other "hidden" ones.

Follow these steps to accelerate your Firefox 2:
Type about:config in the browser’s address bar.
Filter out the list after network then search for the key that says network.http.pipelining and set it to true.
Search for the key that says network.http.proxy.pipelining and set it to true.
Alter the key below network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and change it into a higher value between 30 to 100. Higher is better.
Search for the key that says network.dns.disableIPv6 and set it to true.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Boolean. Name this new preference content.interrupt.parsing and set it to true.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference content.max.tokenizing.time and set it value to 2250000.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference content.notify.interval and set it value to 2 or 3.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Boolean. Name this new preference content.notify.ontimer and set it to true.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference content.notify.backoffcount and set it value to 5.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference content.switch.threshold and set it value to 750000.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set it value to 0.
Context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New | Integer. Name this new preference browser.cache.memory.capacity (or browser.cache.disk.capacity under Linux) and set it value to 65536.

Adding, Modifying, Resetting and Deleting Preferences

To add a new preference, context-click (right-click) anywhere in the list of preferences, select New then select the type of preference. String is textual, Boolean is true-false and Integer is numerical.

To modify an existing preference, context-click (right-click) on the preference, select Modify and type in the new value. In some cases, Toggle will be the selection offered for boolean (true-false) preferences.

To reset a preference to its default value or to remove an added preference, context-click (right-click) on the preference and select Reset. If you added the entry via about:config, the preference will no longer be listed after restarting the program.
